On the 7th June 1999 at approximately 19.30hrs a hail storm proceeded to rain down on the farm and it wasn't until the next day that the true extent of the damage was really known.

Apples, pears and plums were very badly affected, the apples coming off by far the worse. In fact we had anything from 65% to 95% damage, which left the apples only fit one thing. Processing! ie Apple juice and Cider.

This was a perfect opportunity for us to launch a new product: Hayles fresh pressed apple juice. We then purchased an apple press, pasteuriser, and all the other equipment necessary to make and bottle our own apple juice. Because of the hail we now had a redundant cold store and we converted this building to take the apple press pasteuriser and bottling equipment.

Our first juice was bottled on 31st October 1999.

Because we grow a number of different varieties of apples we produce single variety apples juices only. We have made single variety apple juice from the following varieties:

Discovery, Howgate Wonder, Greensleeve, Cox Orange Pippin, Blenheim Orange, Egremont Russet, Jonagold, Red Pippin, and Bramley.

What do they taste like?

Well, the flavour of pressed apple juice is totally unique. It comes in bottles and is completely different to apply juice that has been processed from apple concentrate and then put into a carton.

At the moment our apple juice comes in 75cl bottles and 33cl bottles.

We sell our apple juice through our own farm shop and also local hotels restaurants and tea rooms. You can also purchase our apple juice from:
